The Splendor of Yesteryear in a Quiet Country Setting

The Bridges Inn at Whitcomb House (West Swanzey, NH) is a charming Bed and Breakfast whose scrumptious breakfasts and warm hospitality keep guests coming back. This comfortable home-away-from-home repeatedly satisfies tourists, business travelers, students, and people visiting family or friends.

Built in 1792, this quintessential inn with a Victorian flair is situated in the quaint and quiet village of West Swanzey, just five miles from downtown Keene. The inn is a stone's throw from the historic Thompson Covered Bridge and the other five nearby covered bridges for which the inn is named.

Today, the Bridges Inn is owned and run by Susan (Schuster) Karalekas, her husband Nick, son David, daughter Elizabeth, and son-in-law Claudio. Susan bought the inn in November 2006, fulfilling a long-held dream of owning a B&B. She and her family graciously welcome guests into their home, sharing their time and talents to create a memorable stay. Chef David’s specialty is to repeatedly delight guests with his culinary skills. Elizabeth has a passion for keeping the inn as “green” as possible, implementing environmentally responsible practices. Attention to detail is one of the factors that makes this family-run B&B special.

The décor of this historic building is lovely with distinctively decorated rooms, tin ceiling, and antiques throughout. Each room is uniquely decorated and attractively appointed with a variety of antiques, furnishings, and accessories. The comfortable environment combines the splendor of yesteryear with the amenities of today.

Elegant Breakfasts

Guests enjoy multi-course breakfasts made from fresh ingredients, locally grown or produced whenever possible. The creative menus are typically prepared by David whose creations are delicious and the portions generous.

Special dietary restrictions and requests, such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and sugar-free foods will be accommodated upon request. Breakfasts are aesthetically presented in the comfortable dining room with linen tablecloths and napkins; on bone china with silver and crystal.

Perfect Start For A Covered Bridge Tour

The Bridges Inn is near the six covered bridges of the Monadnock region, five of which are on the National Register of Historic Places. The Thompson Covered Bridge can be seen from their front yard, and the other five are an easy drive. Some people enjoy visiting the covered bridges by bike.

There are also many local attractions and destinations to choose from. Susan and her family are happy to suggest a restaurant, day trip, or a trail to hike. They are knowledgeable of the Monadnock region, keep track of events and activities throughout the seasons, and are eager to help find what will best suit guests’ individual needs and interests.
